Length: 45 inches (approx. 114 cm), offering comfortable control and freedom
Widths available: ¾ inch (19mm) and 1 inch (25mm) to suit small and large breeds
Hardware: Solid brass trigger hook for secure collar attachment and brass O-ring at the handle for convenient hands-free carrying or cross-body wear
Stitching: Hand saddle-stitched with traditional waxed linen thread for strength and longevity — customizable thread colors available upon request
Materials & Craftsmanship
Every lead is meticulously handmade and hand-stitched using the finest full-grain British bridle leather, oak bark tanned using centuries-old natural tanning methods at the prestigious JFJ Baker tannery in Colyton, Devon. This traditional process enhances the leather’s toughness and natural oils, making it perfect for outdoor use and exposure to the elements.
The solid brass fittings are chosen for their durability and classic appeal, drawing from harness making traditions. Edges are carefully burnished to seal the leather fibers, preventing fraying and wear. Handmade and saddle stitched by hand, with waxed linen threads and burnished to leave a smooth, clean edge. Leather Care Instructions
To keep your leather dog lead looking and performing its best, regular care is essential:
Wipe clean with a damp cloth after use
Avoid prolonged exposure to water or extreme sunlight
Condition periodically using a natural leather balm (like my handcrafted balm made from tallow, beeswax, and birch oil) to nourish the leather fibers and maintain suppleness
Do not use dubbin or neatsfoot oil, as these can dry out the leather and damage stitching
