FAQs

  • Every collar and lead is cut from oak-bark-tanned British bridle leather, sourced from J. & F.J. Baker's tannery in Colyton, Devon, one of the last oak bark tanneries of its kind in the world. The leather is naturally tanned over many months, resulting in a hide that is exceptionally strong, breathable, and built to age beautifully with use.

  • Yes, all collars are made to your dog's exact neck measurement. Before placing your order, please read the measurement guide, it takes a couple of minutes and makes all the difference. You'll be asked to enter the measurement when you add the collar to your order.

  • The wide-profile sight hound collars are designed specifically for breeds with long, elegant necks, greyhounds, whippets, lurchers, and salukis. The traditional collars and leads suit all breeds, including working dogs, gundogs, spaniels, labradors, and terriers. If you're unsure which style suits your dog, feel free to get in touch.

  • Absolutely. Oak-bark-tanned bridle leather is used in saddlery and working horse gear precisely because of its strength and reliability. It holds up to fieldwork, wet conditions, and daily hard use far better than cheap chrome-tanned alternatives. These collars are built for dogs that work, not just dogs that walk.

  • Caring for your collar is simple. Apply a small amount of natural leather balm once or twice a year; avoid soaking in water and allow it to dry naturally if it gets wet. Minor marks and darkening are part of the character, not a flaw. The leather is designed to be lived in.

  • With reasonable care, these collars last for many years, often the lifetime of the dog and beyond. The oak bark tanning process produces leather that only gets better with age. Many customers pass them on or keep them as a keepsake. These aren't fast fashion for dogs; they're made to endure.
