Leather making courses and workshops in Devon

Leather Workshops

HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO LEARN THE ART OF LEATHERCRAFT?

Or are you a maker looking to broaden your skill set and learn more traditional techniques?

From my studio at Kigbeare Pottery in West Devon, I offer a range of workshops for both beginners and skilled leatherworkers alike. From one-day belt making to two-day bag and satchel courses you will learn the traditional art of leather craft and take home something truly unique, an item you crafted with your own two hands.

I also offer 1:1 tuition, a day completely tailored to your needs where you can hone your skills and advance your journey into leathercraft.

On these courses you will learn the basic skills that all Master leather workers start with.

The morning will be spent learning the different parts of leather, tanning techniques and how to use leather for your project. You will learn about the tools used in leather work and how to look after and sharpen these tools. How to cut and prepare leather and practice hand stitching techniques.

The afternoon will be spent starting and working on your project, either making a belt or preparing the sections of a shoulder bag or satchel bag to continue through to the next day where you will construct your chosen bag design.

At the end of the course you will have created something that you get to take home with you, and gained the skills needed to further your journey into leather work at home.

Katy Warriner

About your tutor, Katy

I started my leatherwork journey nine years ago, on a two-day leatherworking course. Having always had a passion for leather it was a dream to become a saddler from a very early age. After the two-day course I delved into books and videos to teach myself the skills needed to advance my career in leather work. I have been a professional leatherworker and prop maker for 9 years, starting Warriner Leather as a business in 2018. I am now a trained Bridle maker with the society of Master Saddlers and continuing my training to become a qualified saddle maker and harness maker.

My skills have been recognized by national and international craft societies, winning awards for my work and more recently I was awarded funding through The Leather Sellers student grant scheme to continue my training into saddler with a master saddler. One day I hope to achieve the status of Master Harness Maker, to truly know that I have mastered my craft.

I have always loved teaching and through these courses share my passion and skills to be able to teach others the beautiful art that is leatherwork.
